Silo Cinema

30 Nov

An outdoor cinema utilising one of the Silos as a screen was always going to be part of the Wynyard Quarter entertainment.  It is happening.  And it is free.  Silo 7 will provide the screen on Friday evenings throughout summer.  Feature films will start from 9 pm, and food stalls will cater for those getting a tad peckish.  December’s movies will include Siones Wedding, Florian Habicht’s hit Love Story and the classic, Labyrinth.  Silo Sessions will also kick off in December.  Free daytime concerts underneath the Silos will be staged from noon to 5 pm on Saturdays.  The first gig to get the series underway is Little Bushmen with support from Cian and Franklin T. Booker this Saturday.

All go at Wynyard

30 Nov

It’s all go down at Wynyard Quarter. Look out for new parking conditions, particularly near business premises where the emphasis will be on short-term parking to assist those businesses. Waterfront Auckland is also encouraging more punters to travel to Wynyard by bus, walking and cycling. Plans are afoot to make all three options more attractive in an effort to reduce congestion, pollution, and the carbon footprint in general.

The Dockline trams are as popular as ever with a new education programme proving a hit. Developed to provide teachers with resource material to use when visiting the trams with their students, the education programme comprises a pack with information about the history and mechanical operation of trams, along with practical activity sheets. When visiting the trams, students are shown how an electric tramcar works, taken for a ride around Wynyard Quarter, and learn about the history of Auckland’s Waterfront and it’s neighbours – the Maritime Museum and Viaduct Basin, while completing activities from the education pack.

The Auckland Dockline Tram education resources and student activities guide is available to download free at: http://aucklandtram.co.nz/Education-Groups. Education group bookings cost $5 per student. Accompanying teachers and adults are free. Booking are essential and can be made by calling (09) 377 7701 or email to info@aucklandtram.co.nz.
